Eating out on the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol (PAI) is tough. Some would say impossible. I say a lady’s got to eat and sometimes I don’t have any food with me. So…I set out to find PAI friendly restaurants in Seattle.
I started by googling “Organic Restaurants in Seattle” and made a lunch date with a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile.
We ended up at Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe, in the University District. Chaco Canyon advertises itself as “Washington’s First Certified Organic Vegetarian Café and Restaurant”. You might say this was a strange choice for a paleo girl. As I glanced through the menu, I was thinking the same thing and wondering why I didn’t do more research before deciding to make Chaco Canyon my first experiment.
Luckily, they have great smoothies and totally understand food allergies. The server helped me customized a smoothie to meet my particular diet and I added a half an avocado on the side. I had made some sweet potato fries the previous day and had them packed in my favorite paleo accessory, a Repac bag. Between the smoothie and my fries I was pleasantly satisfied.
The dining room is a warm hodgepodge of older tables and chairs. It isn’t a large space but the ceiling is high and it doesn’t feel crowded even when all the tables are full.
I can’t say that I would plan on going here all the time. Paleo and vegan are an interesting mix. However, if I need a quick meal while out and about running errands, I now have a great option. Smoothies, a PAI version of fast food!
